Merging Federations

There can be benefits as well as problems with merging federations. On the one hand, having larger and deeper federations provides more competition and keeps the various and numerous tiers of the federations more compact in terms of the talent gap between the top and the bottom. It also gives more scope for specialised competitions, a larger community and more chance of catching someone from your fed online at the same time as you. On the other hand, it can take some of the soul away from smaller federations which, although small, often have their own unique character, a hardcore of devoted fans and a sense of belonging that monolithic fed just cannot provide. From A Mod: Common Misconceptions in FML

Months ago, I wrote this post on my blog A Mod’s Life about common misconceptions that we mods have to deal with on a regular basis. As it turns out, most of these are still relevant nearly half a year on! On the mod forum we’ve been hammering out a list of common misconceptions about FML, and I thought that I’d list a few of the key ones here. This may wind up as a feature on the official site, in more depth at some stage in the future – another reason to keep an eye on that one! 1. Moderation Mods work for SI – no, we don’t. Promotion and Relegation

One talking point on the forums this week was promotion and relegation and, surprise surprise, the relegated side was the most disgruntled. I must admit, I find most of the best threads on the official SIG forums by scrolling down and middle-clicking on all the ones that have been locked, are hopelessly misspelt or contain a lot of stars and/or capital letters. The Off-Season Checklist

So, you’re an FA Organiser. Woohoo! You’ve read the FAO Doc/ instructions five times over but you appreciate that you can’t have much in the way of play or practice before the current season ends and then the clock is ticking to get things put in place prior to the next season beginning. The following checklist was put together in some sort of vague order so you can prioritise and maybe check off items on the list to ensure that you have covered all bases prior to the 8pm start of the season without any last minute panics. This does not replace the FAO Guide Document in any way. The most important part of organising is collaborations. Getting to know your…

Introduction – A Mod’s Life

So – welcome to my new column here on GW1.com! Some of you may know me as Super Bladesman, from the SI Games forums, while some of you may know me as Nik the Mod, from FML’s first ever blog, FML: A Moderator’s Life. A select few thousand of you may even have felt the fear of facing my Frecheville Blades side on the field of battle in one of the many Gameworlds I have been mediocre in, and hence may know by my real name… The original blog will still continue, so the regular readers of that can both rest easy. Over there I will be continuing to follow the progress of my hardworking Blades and that side of my FML life. Here, however, I will be talking more…
