Get Sacked! FM Live Restart Challenge #1

Are you considering starting in an established game world but think it’s too difficult? On the official forums, everyone has been beating this myth to death, but I think it’s probably easier! Well, it’s hard for me to make this claim if I’m not willing to put my money where my mouth is. So I am! I’ll be posting up some screenshots and documenting my progress over the coming weeks and months. You can join in with the challenge as well! All you need to do is wait for your game world’s off-season and click “start again”. Let us all know how you’re doing by posting in the comments section…

On The Forums: Quick Hitter Edition

Not a whole lot to say in a preamble for this week. Hoddle, my game world has just finished season six, so I’m preoccupied in getting stuff sorted in good time. For now, I’ll leave you with my fave five ideas threads from the official forums in the last week. Enjoy! Organising Bookmarks Original post by Phil Macklam This was mentioned a while back. Bookmarks are a great way of using singular clicks to get to a destination. You can add a new bookmark by going to the “pages” tab and then “adding bookmark”. As long as you have the bookmarks bar activated you can then see a list of all your bookmarks and can use the F-keys as a further shortcut. There is however only…

Match Engine Trumps All: Impressions of FML v1.3

Football Manager Live version 1.3 has definitely sparked a peak of interest in managers, old and new, to check out all the great new additions to the game. After only a week since it’s release, users are already weighing in with their opinions on this latest round of game development. The new match engine has been a subject of much talk in the official forums for the simple fact that it’s the only addition for 1.3 that is undergoing a staggered release to all the game worlds. The reason behind this strategy from Sports Interactive is for it to prevent wholesale differences for sides who are in a current season. This may be unfortunate for those managers playing in a…

On The Forums: v1.FREE

Another week another same old week on the official forums… well, I guess except for the small event that was Football Manager Live v1.3 launch (or not depending on your level of patience). I admit that I left it until around 10:30pm. It took about an hour before I was up and in the game world, but besides the downloading, it all went very smooth for me. There is still occasional talk about FM Live being a beta test that you have to pay for. I’d disagree – I think it’s great that these updates are free. The subscription was for the version at the time with free future updates, it was never sold as a subscription for a game that hadn’t been designed yet. The arguments…

On The Forums: A Little Privacy, Please!

Since last time, the main change on the official forums is that the General Questions section is now the FML Subscriber Discussion forum and therefore hidden from public view. What this means is that, hopefully, the negativity from the regular forum users will not saturate the it with opinions that may not be representative of all the people playing Football Manager Live. It means that we may end up with some more interesting debates and interactions with Sega and Sports Interactive and will make the experience more personal. Will this spell an end to Si Evans saying “wrong forum”?! Will we miss the GW advertising? It also means that anyone new to FM Live will read…

Clear Conscience of a Single-Gameworld Manager

The Soul of a Gameworld – The Community Football Manager Live (FML) has always been a game in which the more you put in the more you get out. Each person in the GameWorld (GW) plays their part in making the community and the community is the one thing that holds the GW together. If you’re active in the chat rooms, be it the lobby or your Football Association chatroom then you can talk to other guys from all different backgrounds. The more you immerse yourself into the chatrooms, the more you’ll find banter. Banter, not to be confused with abuse or heated arguments, is for me the very heart of why FML is a success. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good argument – if…

On The Forums – Clarity Mixed With Rage

A fairly active general discussion forum over the last week. This time I’ve tried not to limit myself to just the top five and have not kept to just ideas (although this is my favourite topic in the forums!). As per normal I’ve ignored the questions on whether a game world is going to open, adverts for GWs (including my home Hoddle) and requests for FM2009 help. So here we go, with less than two weeks until 1.3 launch, sit back and get prepared for what I think is a few inspirational moments, visible peaks of clarity and maybe a couple of rage threads. Challenge All Opponents started by Fm-View on the thread…

Getting Info To The Masses: Is The Customer Always Right?

The last couple of weeks have shown some unprecedented debates in the general forums, beyond the usual moans about moderators or specific areas of game play like the match engine. Now the masses have turned their focus upon the development process and the levels of communication between the games developers and the playing customers. “The Customer is always right!” Sorry to disillusion you all, but that’s simply not true. If we walk away from the service counter for a bit and step into the back office you’ll find more often than not that the opposite is the reality. It’s a saying that is trotted out to the masses to keep them appeased keeping customers…
