Reaching Goals In FMLive: My Restart Challenge Story

Well it’s been an exciting season for sure. Let’s rewind to what happened after my first day after restarting, what my goals were, whether I achieved them and what I achieved over the season. Firstly let me just sit on the fence for a second… restarting is not the same as starting with a new account. When you start a new account you do not have the skills, so I had six seasons worth of skills so in theory around six months ahead of anyone brand new. That said, the difference would not be as great as you think as the top level skills don’t take as long to reach as to learn – so this means that I’ll always be ahead of someone new but difference in learnt skills could…

5 Things I Learned At The FML Council

It seems like the plans have been finalised from the community day. Marc Duffy has announced via the forums and through the developer blogs that the council has taken place, and there will be a full disclosure of everything that went on in the week beginning Monday 23 November. In the meantime, since Marc has revealed who actually went to the meeting, I can now reveal some of the things I learned which are not covered by the NDA. 1. Never, ever, ever go to Russell Square tube station The nearest underground stop to the offices in which I study is Russell Square, on the Piccadilly Line between King’s Cross St Pancras and Holborn. Thing is, it doesn’t have an…

On The Forums: Future, Past and the Present

Not a lot of interest on the forums this week aside from a couple of official threads. Beyond those it’s a lot of the same speculation that’s continued for some time. Although there was one standout thread that revived an old piece of video and added a much needed touch of humour to the forums. Something that’s been in short supply for some time. Marc Duffy produced a blog this week and transcribed that onto the forums in the State of the gameworlds – SI Update. While some may see it as yet another announcement of an announcement as it is there to inform everyone that the 23rd of November will see the beginning of a series of blogs. “Over the next few days we’ll be…

Improve Your Tactical Knowledge, Your Game World, Your Bank Account

With Football Manager 10 now in the shops, the community forums are buzzing again with people asking for downloadable tactics, accusing the AI of cheating, and generally causing mayhem. Ah. November. There’s nothing quite like it. It does raise an interesting question though. Given that we’ve had the tactics creator in Football Manager Live for about six months now, couldn’t we be giving some advice to these new Football Manager players? Think about it. It’s the same system in 1.3 as it is in FM10. So, in theory, the same types of tactics should work on each. We, as FML players can go and help the FM10 guys get to grips with the new interface. And in…

Get Sacked! FM Live Restart Challenge #2

Are you considering starting in an established game world but think it’s too difficult? On the official forums, everyone has been beating this myth to death, but I think it’s probably easier! Well, it’s hard for me to make this claim if I’m not willing to put my money where my mouth is. So I am! In this episode, I log in to GW Fowler after going two weeks without doing so. Although I set up a decent initial squad, match plans and fitness competitions, let’s see if my lack of activity has been detrimental to my team! I’ll continue documenting my progress over the coming weeks and months. You can join in with the challenge as well! All you need to do is wait…

On The Forums: A New Perspective

This week has been busier than most on the forums with the birthday of Football Manager Live, the release of the 1.3.2 update and the lead up to the first FML Council meeting. The general consensus being that the Match Engine update (1.3.2) was largely successful in fixing the Goalkeepers’ mistakes. However, the jury is still out on the progression issues. Robson Brown explains that while there won’t be any specific boosts to correct the decline, players are going to progress faster in crossing and similar skills from 1.3.2. Also, there was apparently a problem with the Greek, Zambian, and later even Russian players/managers, due to the new design of flags. In…

Let The Battle Commence: My Restart Challenge Story

It all started off with following Jordan Cooper on Twitter. He said he was restarting in Football Manager Live to walk the walk following his post about how easy it is to start in an old gameworld. I considered the potential of a “Restart Football Association”, which would be much the same as transferring game worlds, so could be called the “Pro FA”. I was thinking about how if loads of people restarted and then were put into the same FA as new starters to the GW, then it would prove a fairly positive welcome party. Maybe a new Pro FA created each off-season for people to join and then there was a more developed FA for people to ascend to when reaching 3 star…

On The Forums: If You Can Have One Feature

It’s been an interesting experience on the official forums this week. The honeymoon period of v1.3 launch and a little bit of silence was broken by a small angry mob of subscribers saying that the new match engine (ME) in Football Manager Live had problems and that they wish it was more like Football Manager 2010 instead, as this is more realistic, although there was some humble pie eaten upon the revelation that the demo version of FM2010 has exactly the same match engine as FML v1.3. On the positive, I thought that I’d concentrate this week on the thread “If you could have one feature…” started by Robson Brown (Rb). I have tried to keep it to new features and not…
