How will v1.3 enhance your FM Live experience?

By the time this article gets published, most of you will be in a position to evaluate the pros and cons of Football Manager Live’s newest 1.3. As you know, FM Live is constantly being evolved to enhance the user’s overall gaming experience, but how does 1.3 help with this? I’m highlighting some of the most obvious changes that should see the biggest impact on game worlds. The previous update was (unfairly in my opinion) criticised in some quarters for not providing anything new to do within the game. However, the guys from Sports Interactive have been hard at work trying to improve this side of Football Manager Live. CPU Teams I think the biggest improvement…

What makes a good attacking midfielder?

Attacking midfielders are the catalysts of every teams attacking line. They link midfield with attack and have the creativity and vision to see gaps in the opposition’s defence. So, having a good one should mean that you have an added dimension to your team’s attacking play. An AM needs specific attributes to unlock those defences. Two of the key ones are Passing and Creativity. If they lack Creativity, team-mates won’t be spotted as easily by the player and he will be less likely to do something ‘a bit special.’ However, if they have high creativity but can’t pass, then the ball won’t reach your attackers in the first place. As with the majority of…

What makes a good centre half?

Central defenders are the heart and soul of every team and are one of the most important aspects to your club. Get two of them and you will go a long way to getting those all-important ‘shut outs.’ Generally, there are two typical kinds of centre back – the powerhouse hard-man and the athletic type. Real life teams often build a foundation on top class partnerships, with these two types of defenders often capable of complementing each other perfectly. A real life example of this would be what many consider the best defensive partnership in England (if not the world) – Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic of Manchester United. I’ll use these examples to compare with…

5 Of The Best Players – Wonderkids

To kick off our occasional new series “Five of the Best” here at GW1.com, I’ll be introducing you to five of the best players within the Football Manager Live database. Simples! So the first one I’ve decided to go for is wonderkids. This list will include some of the finest kids on the game. I’m going to try to have a variation of different positions too, so don’t be surprised if a huge name player is missed off the list. You can just comment on the article and tell me how stupid I am for missing them out! Miralem Pjanic Pjanic is now a name that is instantly recognisable to recent FM/FML players and Lyon are hoping his stature will rise in real life,…

Filtering your way to the top

The ‘filter’ system in FML (and indeed the last few iterations of it’s older brother Football Manager) is an aspect of the game that is hugely powerful yet underrated at the same time. Filters can narrow down pretty much every aspect of a player/club/manager search you could think of, and it’s frequently expanded. But, how many of you would think of the filters and say they are one of the most important aspects of the game? The intention of this article is for you to understand the full possibilities of this feature and hopefully get the most out of it. Common Search Filters If you can use the filters well, you immediately have an advantage in the transfer…

What makes a good defensive midfielder?

I am of the belief that defensive midfielders are possibly the most important and underrated players in football. That probably translates to the Football Manager series too. Next time you watch a game (be it real or in FML), identify the defensive midfielder in a side and spot how involved he is in the team’s play. Their main job is to protect the back four. He will be the ‘middle-man’ between defence and midfield and is often given a role that encourages him to win back position. Also, the DM is usually the player to start of attacks. He will allow the more attacking players to use their creative heads, safe in the knowledge that there is someone there acting…

Strange New World

One of the major announcements made by Sports Interactive in the change list that has seen a lot of talk in the forums is this… – Added the capability to create game worlds full of fake players which should help to level the playing field between those with expert knowledge of the FM database and those without! It’s fair to say that the ability to create a regen-only GW has met with a certain amount of excitement. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read this and instantly wanted one to open as soon as humanly possible. As a result, I was slightly disappointed to hear that Altobelli was confirmed as a Beginner gameworld when it opens it’s doors. Testing,…

How does 1.2 affect Scouting and Player Progression?

With 1.2 practically upon us, I thought I’d highlight some of the updates and features that affect the player/scouting side to the game. – Made a change to the way wage demands are calculated so that now wage demand will drop more sharply the longer a player is a free agent (though there is still a minimum that a player will ever settle for depending on that player’s ability and reputation.) The importance of this feature is obvious to anyone who has trawled through the free agent list and spotted lots of older players rotting away without a club. While many of them would still be top players, it’s often the case that people don’t see them as a good short…
